About our Club
It is the most popular martial art in the world, and it is the second most participated sport in the world, behind soccer. While judo can be practiced at a highly dynamic level by competitive athletes, judo is also an outstanding means of physical education, fitness and recreation for children, teens and adults -- given it's emphasis on balance and core strength -- and it was in this spirit that judo was initially conceived by its founder, Jigoro Kano, in 1882.
Whether it is for the general fitness of your child, bully-proofing, for a competitive career in judo, or a powerful MMA base, the instructors at Yawara Judo Club in North York, Ontario, will teach you and/or your child in a safe and fun way that will make you forget that you're even exercising.
The head instructor at Yawara Judo Club is Rick Koglin, a 4th degree black belt, former Canadian Junior National Judo Champion and highly experienced judo instructor.
Rick is a former international competitor and has trained with dozens of national and Olympic team members across Canada and from all around the world. He has taught judo at the University of Toronto, several public and private schools across the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) and is also a certified Yoga instructor. Many of Rick's students have gone on to achieve their black belts in judo and have placed in provincial and international judo tournaments across Canada and beyond.
Because of his diverse experiences and with over 30 years in judo, very few instructors can teach judo with the knowledge which Rick can provide. Come in and learn from the best.
